A big heartfelt thank you to everyone so far who has bought tickets to our National Badminton League match in one week's time!!!
We will be hosting Team Skyfall, who were our opponents last time around back in January early this year. Although we lost 3-2, it was a great event, and something I am very proud to both have played in and, more importantly, help bring to the club for the first time with the help of management, the board, and the badminton committee. Next Thursday, we look to put on an even better event, with even more competitive matches and a great Christmas atmosphere, with the added motivation of trying to reverse the close loss we suffered.
I have been a member at the club now for roughly 20 years, and this sort of event is something we have never had in my time here. I wish that when playing professionally myself and as a junior growing up through the club, I could have had the chance to watch the players I looked up to as a youngster in these types of events and progress to playing them.
We are very fortunate to have a thriving junior and elite programme, which means that almost our whole team consists of current and previous Wimbledon members.
From Alex Green, who trained his whole junior career at the club and now plays on the world tour, training at the National Centre for doubles, to our 4 U19 national champions in Felix, James, Jacky, and Lila. It is great to have them representing our club on the national and international stages, and giving them the chance to play on home soil, in front of all of you, with this invaluable experience of playing in a crowded hall on one court under the spotlight.
With that being said, to those who have not yet, please buy a ticket, come loud and proud, and support our brightest talents from the club. Let's make Thursday 19th December an evening to remember down at our great club.
