Badminton Court Lighting

Dear Member,

We hope you have all enjoyed playing under the recently installed replacement lighting on Courts 1–7.

The lighting meets new standards, designed by Carbon8, and is shortly to be adopted by Badminton England. We believe we will be the first badminton club in the country to conform to these standards.

These new controls are expected to result in significant energy savings.

The lighting controls are connected to the MyCourts booking system and, from Monday 5th May, they will be switched to automatic mode. In automatic mode, the lights will only be activated for a prepaid court booking and will switch off promptly at the end of the booked hour. However, if there is a consecutive booking, the court lights will remain on between sessions.

To ensure all members are able to leave the court area safely, Court 5 will remain on as a temporary measure until the security lighting is deemed sufficient from a health and safety standpoint. For example, at 10:00pm, when bookings end, the lights on Courts 6 and 7 will turn off automatically, clearly signalling the end of play for all players on all courts. Court 5 will remain lit, allowing players to collect belongings and exit the hall safely.

On evenings with league matches, court lights will be manually managed by staff to accommodate variable finish times.

We hope you enjoy playing under the new lights.
